Installing Fiber Cement Fascia
Fiber cement fascia boards are excellent options for offering water protection. However, this advantage of using fiber cement fascia boards does have it price and great care has to be taken when one is installing it. Some of the general installation tips when installing fiber cement fascia boards are:
Always use the right equipment when you are cutting fascia boards. If you are going to cut a thin piece of fiber cement then this can be done by using a sharp knife. However always use a reference point to do the cutting;this can be done either by using chalk as a marker or even a pencil. If you are going to cut thicker pieces of fiber cement fascia boards then you will need a saw (circular) to do this.
Look at how your roof is inclined and cut the fascia pieces to accompany this. You may use a siding t-bevel if you are changing or replacing the boards. Make sure your soffit and fascia are aligned. If you find that the soffit is too large then the best solution is to trim it down until it is the same size as the fascia board or even a bit shorter.
Try to find where the beams are located in your house and this can be done by knocking and it and listening for a solid sound. You are going to use these same beams as support for the fascia pieces.
Get some extra help to hand the fascia, because this type of material is known to weigh quite a bit.
Once the fascia is in place then hammer it in from top and bottom and working within by spacing each nail at least 6 inches apart. The nails should enter the beams that you have marked.
Proceed by doing the rest of pieces until you are done.
